Scholarships

The Friends of the Romeo District Library makes funds available each year to support Romeo area residents or employees of the Romeo District Library who are working towards a Masters in Library and Information Sciences from an accredited institution. Awards range from $500 to $2,00. At least one scholarship of $500 is available annually for employees of the Romeo District Library who are completing their Bachelor’s with the intention of further study in Library and Information Sciences. Since 2002, the Friends have provided over $21,500 in educational support.

Scholarships awarded in 2024 may be applied to Fall 2024, Winter 2025 and/or Spring 2025 terms.

In addition, the Friends offer a scholarship to a selected Romeo High School (RHS) senior who has volunteered their time and efforts to the Romeo District Library or the Friends of the Romeo District Library within their high school career. Interested students should contact the RHS counseling office for an application. The application deadline for the RHS scholarship is March 8, 2023.

Eligibility Requirements

Scholarship for an accredited Masters in Library and Information Sciences program

  • Resident of Bruce Township, Washington Township or the Village of Romeo
  • AND/OR you are an employee of the Romeo District Library (full-time or part-time working a minimum of 20 hours per week)
  • Currently enrolled or have applied to an accredited MLIS program (If you are not currently enrolled – you must provide documentation of acceptance before the scholarship will be awarded)
  • Currently in good academic standing or graduated from your previous educational experience in good standing
  • If you are a previous scholarship recipient, you must have maintained a 3.0 GPA

Scholarship for a Bachelors or Associate degree program in preparation for future MLIS study

  • Employee of the Romeo District Library (full-time or part-time working a minimum of 20 hours per week)
  • Currently enrolled in or have applied to a relevant bachelor’s or associate degree program (If you are not currently enrolled – you must provide documentation of acceptance before the scholarship will be awarded)
  • Currently in good academic standing or graduated from your previous educational experience in good standing
  • If you are a previous scholarship recipient, you must have maintained a 3.0 GPA

Schedule

Application Deadline April 15, 2024 If you meet the eligibility requirements, we will contact you to request additional information. In some cases, we may schedule an interview with you.
Award Determination May 15, 2024 After the awards are determined, you will be asked to sign a scholarship agreement and provide proof of enrollment. Payment of the scholarship will be made directly to your school.
